Item Description
9" tall cast-aluminum figural bank depicts Mickey Mouse standing in classic pose w/hands on hips, though Mickey's appearance is a bit stylized. Made in France during the 1930s w/no Disney markings. There is a cap nut on the back holding the two halves together and this is removed in order to retrieve coins. Coin slot is on top back edge of his head. This bank was cast from the first of three Disney authorized cast-iron French banks produced. Speculation has it that a number of the cast aluminum versions were made by vocational school students as part of a casting project in the 1930s. A variety of different color schemes were used, this is version w/Mickey wearing blue shirt, red pants and shoes, w/tops of shoes in matching blue. Obvious and heavy paint wear as is typical, about 30% original paint remaining. VG. From the Maurice Sendak Collection and comes with COA.
