Item Description
Pair of approx. 22x27.25" wood frames w/archival mats that reveal 11.5x14.5" India ink image area. Published in "Humbug" #10 in June, 1958 (the first magazine size issue). All text is printed and pasted in place. Storyline has Texas oil man playing his first round of golf. First page has seven images. Man smoking cigar arrives on course w/overloaded golf bag carried by small caddy, swings club wildly, then proceeds to green. Second page has him swinging wildly again, finally landing ball in hole. He then asks caddy which club to use to "Git The Ball Out Of Thet Little Hole!" Bottom margins have original "Humbug" ink stamps w/New York City addresses. First page has original Jack Davis signature in ink at upper right, and both pages have been signed again in ink at lower right. Comes w/four 4x6" color photos, each showing Davis holding and signing this art. Margins have usual editorial notes and minor aging, pasted text has aged in places, image areas overall VF/Exc. Editor Harvey Kurtzman and many others including comic book historians consider Davis' work on "Humbug" to be the best of his career. Superb, intricate pen work throughout. Framed and ready for display.
