Item Description
25.75x31.75 ornate vintage wooden frame (w/new mat) contains elaborate print entitled "Our Mission" at bottom center and features extremely detailed scenes from man's life that include studying, swearing-in, meeting man and looking at pile of parts/gears outside factory. Additional scenes not featuring this man (who is pictured at top right in Union Army uniform beside Columbia) include jail scene, man overlooking Capitol building and picnic scene. Top center has image of bust of George Washington over Junior Order of United American Mechanics crest, flanked by two American flags and "Virtue - Liberty - Patriotism" code. The Junior Order of United American Mechanics is an American fraternal order that began as a youth affiliation of the Order of United American Mechanics, but seceded to become its own organization and eventually absorbed its parent order. Originally, it was an Anti-Catholic, Nativist group, but eventually abandoned this position and became a general fraternal benefit society open to people regardless of creed, race or sex. Print has 1775 and 1853 dates, but print dates to c. 1891. Print is illustrated w/numerous tools and instruments. Upper right has large area of faint moisture staining, but not too distracting. Picnic scene has 1.5" area of darker aging. VF overall as matted and framed.
