Item Description
30.25x38.25" frame contains oilcloth banner for the sesquicentennial celebration of Princeton University's 150th Anniversary in 1896, when the college officially changed its name from the College of New Jersey to Princeton University to honor the town in which it resides. During this year, the college also underwent a large expansion and officially became a university. Oilcloth banner features large image of a snarling tiger, the university's mascot. Banner is topped by large "Princeton" name "1746-1896" dates at bottom. Banner was displayed at football games during the sesquicentennial celebration. Banner has been folded and as such has several fold lines, some w/splits to material. Some have small tears/holes at fold crease intersections and entire banner has even heavy aging. Bottom (at/around date area) has obvious scattered moisture staining and there is a 1.5" streak of moisture staining just above and to the right of tiger's right eye. VG overall, but as professionally triple-matted and framed, still displays nicely. Top mat (tan) has some faint moisture staining along bottom edge. Rare and a great display piece for any Princeton alumni.
