Item Description
14.5x18.25" mixed media painting on fiber board by editorial cartoonist Gib Crockett (1912-2000). Art depicts Native American statue bust w/"Boston College" pennant sticking out of quiver and fresh face paint on bust's face and actual feathers sticking up in back of head, one loose feather resting on shoulder. This illustration was provided for a 1982 Boston College/Navy football game. Crockett has signed at lower left. Crockett began working for the "Washington Evening Star" in 1933, initially drawing illustrations, spot cartoons and sports cartoons. In the 1940s, his work began to appear on the editorial page. Eventually, Crockett became the primary editorial cartoonist in 1965. He also received awards from the Freedoms Foundation and received the National Headliners Award (1957) and was a member of the American Art League of Washington. Art is Exc. and would look great framed.
