This button is unlisted in Hake. Left side edge has .25" long narrow fragment of loose celluloid but the only thing seen on the front are a pair of faint 1/16" lines. The button has a metal back with bar pin. The metal back holds a 5.25" long ribbon reading in full "Official Challenger/Regular Democratic Organization/Truman-Barkley/General Election Nov. 2nd 1948/Issued By Hudson Co. Board Of Election." While this piece seems to be as issued in every way, we understand challenger's are not allowed to wear campaign buttons on voting day so perhaps the button and ribbon where joined shortly after election day. The metal back is totally secured with no looseness what so ever indicating the piece was produced using professional equipment. Rare and the only known example.
