Item Description
First is "Madly For Adlai" a 2-1/8" listed as Hake #2015. The other three are each 1.75". Button at bottom left is badly stained and reverse has 3/8" cello split that makes edge bump. On the fourth the red panel at top has faded some but still displays cleanly. The "Bird Dog" button has faint gray mark at upper left and another at lower right but both barely show. Quotation is a reference to a remark by Charlie Wilson, who was Ike's Secretary of Defense from 1953-1957. In 1954 he made a comment about the plight unemployed workers in Detroit saying "Personally, I Like Bird Dogs Better Than Kennel-Fed Dogs. The Bird Dogs Like To Get Out And Hunt Their Food But The Kennel Dogs Just Sit On Their Haunches And Yelp." We've not seen this button before. Julie Powell Collection.
