Item Description
7/8" with W&H back paper. This short-lived party formed in 1898 was named the Social Democratic Party. There was much division among proponents of Socialism at this time in opposition to Daniel DeLeon and the Socialist Labor Party. There was a Chicago group and a Rochester, NY group both using the name Social Democratic Party between 1898 and 1901. This button shows the party emblem and carries the party name for the 1900 ticket of Debs and Harriman. In 1901 the Social Democratic Party and disaffected elements of the Socialist Labor Party formed the Socialist Party of America. Slightest fade of red color, very faint 1/8" age mark at bottom and light age on reverse around the collet. A rare 3rd party button. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
