Item Description
First is 2-5/8x4" tall plastic sleeve with bar pin on the reverse. Into it has been slipped a "Goldwater For President/A Golden Opportunity For America" card. Reverse of the card lists nine of his policy positions. Item was probably not issued in this format but some Goldwater supporter placed the card in this plastic name card holder in order to display the front. Second is .75" litho for his visit to "Prescott-Arizona Sept. 3, 1964." Essentially Mint. Next is 2x2-3/8" plastic badge with interior card showing elephant and slogan "I'm Voting For Goldwater." The LBJ version of this is common but this Goldwater is quite the opposite. Maker name on back "Richmor Badges/Shamokin, Pa." Next is 1.5" button "I'd Rather Write/Than Be President." This is a take off of Goldwater's famous quotation although we don't quite understand the implications of the slogan. It is from 1964. Last and probably most interesting is a brass frame with bar pin on back holding a plastic disk insert reading "Goldwater/Miller/11." This was issued by a group of Philadelphia women who, picking up on the Coffee For Kennedy 1960 idea, organized tea parties to promote Goldwater's campaign. This piece is 1.75" diameter and NM. Julie Powell Collection.
