Item Description
5.75" tall painted cast metal classic image of full figure smiling Mickey Mouse w/hands in pockets atop 5" dia., 3.25" tall walnut base w/felt on underside. Backside of shoe is stamped "W.D.P." Front of base bears printed brass name plaque, issued to Frank Grundeen (1911-1986), a Disney animator who is noted as "Charter Member - Frank Grundeen - 7-13-36." Grundeen was an animator w/the Walt Disney Studios in the 1930s and 1940s, participating in the the Disney features "Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo" and "Bambi." He also did work for Standard Comics in the late 1940s. He spent most of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s working as a commercial illustrator. Grundeen then worked on the "Donald Duck" daily/Sunday comic strip from 1967 to 1976. He began as Al Taliaferro's inker, but he took over the artwork completely in 1969. Exc. When Walt Disney received an Oscar for a cartoon or film, he gave these in-house awards to animators and others who he thought contributed to its success. A classic Disney collectible w/extremely limited distribution. Wonderful for display.
