Item Description
This legal aid group dates back to the 1920s when James P. Cannon a former I.W.W. activist and then Communist party leader sparked its formation as early as April 1924. He along with I.W.W. leader who defected to Russia William D. Haywood drew up a list of "Class War Prisoners" needing legal and financial support with the list including high-profile cases such as Sacco, Vanzetti, Mooney, Billings, and John B. McNamara. Those efforts took place in the 1920s but this is a 1930s button with union bug back stamp and name of San Francisco maker Brunt. NM displaying Mint and the only example we've seen.
