Item Description
16-1/8x20" mat contains original thin artboard that has been matted to 10.75x13.75". Art is by Jeffrey Jones (1944–2011), an American artist whose work is best known from the late 1960s through 2000s. Jones provided over 150 covers for many different types of books (specializing in swords and sorcery titles) through 1976, as well as venturing into fine art during and after this time. This preliminary pencil drawing features full body image of bearded man drawing back bow string, a shield w/embedded arrows in it lays at his feet. This was preliminary art for a piece that was later published and featured in a line of collectible trading cards featuring Jones' work. The finished piece also included a woman grasping his leg and a different shield in foreground. Back of artboard has smaller pencil profile drawing of Medieval-looking man w/sword. Art has been signed "J. Jones" in pencil and is inscribed "To Bob, Regards, Jeff" at lower left. Front of artboard has some scattered tape staining/dust soiling/aging. Lot comes w/glossy card stock ad slick for the trading card set showing finished art. Fine overall.
