Item Description
7/8" button with unreadable small union bug on curl and additional union bug stamp on the metal back. Button pictures photo of Castro from the early 1960s. The initials "PR" flank his image and likely the button was issued to inspire a revolution in that country similar to the successful one in Cuba. Surrounding text is "M-26 de Julio/Libertad O Muerte." Rim slogan translates to "Liberty Or Death" and the date refers to the 26th of July Movement which was the name of the revolutionary organization planned and led by Castro that in 1959 overthrew the Batista dictatorship in Cuba. The movement's name originated from a failed attack on the Moncada Barracks (the bullet holes in the cement walls have been preserved) an Army facility in Santiago de Cuba on 26 July, 1953. The movement leaders fled to Mexico and re-organized later returning to Cuba for their successful revolution. There is a single virtual pinpoint dirt speck trapped under the celluloid on his forehead and this has created a 1/8" diameter air spot surrounding but only showing in reflected light and with straight on viewing the piece still displays Mint as made. Rare.
