Item Description
Pair of cloth dolls, unmarked but likely English. 1930s. Popeye stands nearly 10" tall and has stuffed cloth body and arms w/cloth over molded celluloid head and pressed cardboard shoes. Original wooden pipe. Printed anchor tattoos on forearms. Scattered aging w/some spotting to felt collar. Fine overall. Olive Oyl doll stands 7.25" tall (9.5" tall to top of umbrella in hand) and has flocked composition head and cloth clothing over spring body and painted composition shoes. Olive holds wire umbrella w/paper canopy. Original cardboard tag of front of shirt reads "Push Me Down And I'll Pop Up." When shoulders are pushed down, doll compresses and slowly rises to full height, all the while produced a squeaking noise. Doll has all over even moderate aging and is Fine/VF overall and works well. First we've seen of either of these dolls in our 47 years.
