Item Description
First are twelve 1.5" buttons each inscribed with name and year of winning horse of Belmont Stakes and "Triple Crown" of Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes. Each pictures jockey shirt and cap in apparent racing colors for the winning horse's jockey and stable. Commemorative years and winning horse are 1919, Sir Barton; 1930, Gallant Fox; 1935, Omaha; 1937, War Admiral; 1941, Whirlaway; 1943, Count Fleet; 1946, Assault; 1948, Citation; 1973, Secretariat; 1977, Seattle Slew; 1978, Affirmed (plus one duplicate). Back of one duplicate has the small inked notation "Test 5/83". Five other items come along. One is a cello disk with brass tab on reverse issued for "Monmouth Jockey Club 1964/21/Clubhouse." Four buttons picturing individual horses are "Secretariat" from Belmont 1973, "Ruffian" from "The Great Match" race (the other horse was Foolish Pleasure). This has small bump on lower left where cello did not fold perfectly under the collet. Next from 1985 is "Creme De La Fete" and the last from 1986 is "Lady's Secret." All are Mint with the one small exception.
