Item Description
The origin of the What Me Worry boy has been traced back to an advertisement in 1894 for a Broadway play titled "The New Boy." Product advertisers quickly picked up on the image with one of the first being for Atmore's Mincemeat dating from 1895. He also appears on the colorful and graphically striking button that promotes Comfort Soap and which appeared in the early 1900s. Here the boy appears on a 1901 dated button. This 1.25" has covered tin back and fixed horizontal bar pin. There is no maker name but the metal back carries a patent date of July 24, 1900. Front of the piece reads "Meet Me At The Dunlap, Iowa 1901 Street Fair." There is additional text on his shoulder difficult to read but appearing to be August 16-17-18. Tiniest traces of wear on the reverse with front NM displaying Mint. Only example we've seen of this button.
