Item Description
6.75x29" Strathmore artboard has original pen and ink (w/blue pencil shading) art by legendary "Mickey Mouse" daily strip artist Floyd Gottfredson for Sept. 28, 1934 installment of "Bobo The Elephant" storyline, the same story as in previous item #1890. Strip features four panels in which Mickey Mouse is seen in three panels and Pluto in one. Eli Squinch, an evil miser who sometimes teams up w/Black Pete, first appeared in this strip as an abusive elephant owner. Squinch is seen in all four panels. Strip shows Squinch pestering Mickey about Bobo, w/Mickey replying that he got rid of Bobo. Squinch doesn't believe him, hearing chewing noises coming from stable in second panel. Third panel shows Squinch striding into stable and rushing out, being chased by barking Pluto in last panel. First panel has 1934 Walt Disney Enterprises copyright strip w/"Great Britain Rights Reserved" text. Last panel has "9-28" inked date and "Walt Disney" name signed by Gottfredson (Gottfredson not being allowed to sign his own name). Left margin has "Ben Day #509" designation in blue pencil. Artboard has some scattered lt. dust soiling and aging, but art is o/w clean and Exc. This item was obtained by our consignor as a child in the 1950s and is fresh to the collecting community. Rare and historic Disney art.
