In 1937 Marlin Firearms Co. issued a Tom Mix-endorsed rifle called the “Tom Mix Special .22 Caliber Rifle.” The actual rifle is inscribed with his name. Mix appeared in Marlin ads promoting the rifle. The same ads offered a “Simulated Gold Military Type Ring” along with a booklet by the National Rifle Assn. titled “How To Set Up A Rifle Range” for 10¢. Later the rings were also offered as a “Gold Bullseye Ring” available to boys in groups of 10 rings or more at 6¢ each with suggestion that the rings be sold for 10¢ each and used as an insignia for members of a Marlin club. Still later, in the 1950s, Marlin gave away the ring from their booths at NRA meetings and exhibits. In spite of the numerous offerings, the ring is today quite scarce. Each side of ring has detailed and large emblem of spread-winged eagle perched on a shield. This is a superior example with deep golden luster near 100% intact as is the black accent paint on the target design. Essentially Mint.
