Item Description
The "Batman And Robin" Sunday page ran from Nov. 7, 1943 to Oct. 27, 1946 for a total of 156 Sunday pages. The strip is notable as the last large body of work that Batman co-creator Bob Kane penciled completely solo and contained stories by Don Cameron, Bill Finger, Jack Schiff and Alvin Schwartz. Offered here is a near full run of 146 (missing only 10) full pages, each in 11x15" tabloid size. In most cases "Batman And Robin" is one full side but there are some where "Batman And Robin" is half page, sharing page w/another Sunday strip. Lot includes historic first Sunday page from Nov. 7, 1943 and last Sunday page from Oct. 28, 1946. Lot is as follows: 1943 (8) - complete w/all eight pages; 1944 (52) - missing just 4/2; 1945 (50) - missing just 2/11 and 2/25; 1946 (36) missing 5/26, 6/2, 6/23, 8/11, 8/18, 9/22 and 10/20. Lot also comes w/five bw photostat sheets used by newspapers to print the Sundays. The strip was distributed by the McClure Syndicate, only appearing in a small list of client newspapers, effectively making these strips a scarce collectible today. Great Golden Age content w/Batman and Robin, Alfred, the Batmobile and villains Joker, Penguin and Two-Face. Pages have varying degrees of even but moderate aging and some scattered rough page margins as printed. Fine overall. An instant collection. From the collection of Chip Kidd, renowned author, graphic designer and pop culture enthusiast extraordinaire.
