Item Description
This is a four piece lot. First is the original mailing envelope 8.5" long with front text "Lum & Abner/Great Double Premium/1. Walkin' Weather Prophet/2. The Pine Ridge News." Envelope is NM. The brass embossed badge is 1-9/16" tall. Center window shows piece of cardboard litmus paper designed to turn blue in fair weather, pink in rain and purple in cloudy weather. The papers ability to change color has dissipated and it is a light tan color with three tiny age dots. Luster on the badge is essentially Mint. However on the back the bar pin is missing the tiny catch to hold the pinpoint. Third item is a 5.5x8.5" mimeographed letter explaining how to use the badge and promoting the enclosed "Pine Ridge News" newspaper. Original folds on the letter and lightly tanned but otherwise as issued. The newspaper is Vol.3 No.1 from Spring, 1936. Front page pictures the premium which comes with the lot and the newspaper is filled with humorous articles about the make believe community which served as the basis for the Lum and Abner radio program. Page 2 of 4 has large photo of "Lum Edwards, Our Editor." Lightly tanned and with original folds but otherwise condition is NM as issued.
