Item Description
Lot consists of four items, including two prototypes and two production pieces by CinemaCast, ©1995 Lucasfilm Ltd. When the "Star Wars" trilogy was re-released in the 1990s and word got out that George Lucas was going to be filming and releasing prequel films, the gears were set in motion for another wave of "Star Wars" merchandise to begin being produced. Offered here is the initial prototype produced by CinemaCast and presented to Lucas for approval. This design was ultimately rejected by Lucas and the second prototype was created and ultimately approved. The original prototype featured the "Star Wars" logo similar to how it appeared on the famous opening text crawl at the beginning of the films whereas the final design featured it as it appeared on the movie poster. Both designs were based on the Hildebrandt Bros. movie poster design and feature Princess Leia w/blaster and Luke Skywalker w/raised lightsaber. There were subtle differences in how the characters' clothing was presented, the position of Leia's head and both figures' likenesses were altered to look closer to Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher. Final production size was 3.5x6x10" tall (to tip of lightsaber blade). Original prototype has blade snapped but is present and could be easily reattached as break is clean. Scattered aging. Fine/VF. Final prototype has incised Lucasfilm Ltd. copyright on underside. Luke's lightsaber blade is separate piece and attaches via metal peg in base. Leia's arms are loose and could be easily attached for an Exc. display. Prototypes come w/two production pieces based on final design. One is painted resin w/separate lightsaber that Luke holds. Underside has felt covering and CinemaCast label w/"No. 00089" designation. One of his fingers is chipped off, but not too distracting. VF. Last item in lot is cast pewter version of this statue, also issued by CinemaCast. These were limited to 1,000 made and base has CinemaCast name and "152/1,000" stamped text. Interior of hollow base has 1995 Lucasfilm Ltd. copyright stamped text. separate pewter lightsaber blade inserts in hole in hilt as produced. NM. From the Tomart Archives and comes with COA signed by Tom Tumbusch.
