Item Description
Large and impressive 26.5x40.5" poster for noted magician Grover George, known primarily by his last name. Printed by the Otis Lithograph Co. of Cleveland, OH. c. 1926. Poster features wonderful imagery of George at center, performing card trick. He is surrounded by images of Chinese lanterns and Asian man and woman, nighttime scene of the Sphinx and Pyramids, small image of witch and scene showing three devils (one w/snake) performing tricks of their own at bottom right. A skeleton can be seen in the bkg. Poster advertises George's "'Triumphant American Tour'" which ultimately never occurred. Poster goes on to note "18 People" being involved in the tour, which would employ a "Carload Of Scenic Effects." Poster has scattered edge wear in the form of small tears/chips w/eight archival tape repairs on reverse along margins w/one repair being to jagged 1.75" tear at right center at witch image. Thin white line below George's hand/card trick is as printed. Lower right corner has .25" chip and faint moisture staining. Despite margin issues, poster remains bold and vibrant. Fine overall, but could easily be framed for an Exc. display. Wonderful magic poster.
