Item Description
2" dia. button issued to promote "Airplanes Of America" weekly bulletin produced for multiple bakeries w/weekly advertising specials and prices of baked goods in late 1940 until the spring of 1941. The back page of these bulletins featured a single color airplane picture meant to be cut out and pasted into an album that was available for ten proofs of purchase included w/wrappers. Bakeries gave out flyers containing the first eight in the series. These flyers advertised that there would be 40 in the set; in reality 42 were produced. Button series is ACC #D3 and has Whitehead & Hoag backpaper present. Button reads "Airplanes Of America - Get Free Pictures" and shows prop plane w/"29" on its side. Button has slight trace of wear but is o/w Exc. A very interesting item for the non-sport card collector. Rare and first we've seen in our 48 years.
