Item Description
9" tall painted cast aluminum. This is second of three versions of Mickey Mouse cast metal banks (see previous item #1782) made in France by Jules Manil in the mid-1930s. The first version was only marked "Depose" on the back, this version is boldly stamped on back of ears "License" and "Exclusive." Underside of feet has raised "Walt Disney" name and "J. Manil Vivier Au Court" text, indicating this item was produced in Vivier-au-Court in the Ardennes in northern France. There is a screw on the back holding the two halves together and this is removed in order to retrieve the coins. Screw appears to have been replaced. Coin slot is on top back edge of his head. Paint on eyes has darkened slightly. This is a factory-produced aluminum version w/original paint. Some scattered paint wear (most noticeable on back at screw). VF overall. Comes w/copy of period Manil ad noting this cast aluminum variety's price as well as information on the cast iron variety. Rare and the first we've offered in our 48 years.
