Item Description
8.5x11" program w/24 pages. This program is for Lugosi's return to the role of Count Dracula in 1951 for a six-month tour, in a production presented by Harry H. Oshrin. Lugosi first portrayed Dracula in a 1927 stage production, going on to portray the Count in Tod Browning's 1931 Universal film. During the late 1940s and into the 1950s, Lugosi's career was in decline due in part to the actor being typecast as a horror actor. Despite this, Lugosi agreed to reprise his most iconic film role for the stage in 1951. This program heavily promotes Lugosi as the play's star, and is peppered w/photos of the actor from various films throughout his career. He is portrayed as Dracula a number of times and program features "Exposing On Screen Villains" and "'Dracula' Proves Very Nice Person When He's Off-Stage" articles. One page features three photos from the 1951 stage production. Program cover has pulled from bottom staple and top staple is a bit loose. Program is complete but shows wear w/pinch creases to spine and handling wear. Back cover has 7/8" corner tip off lower left and cover has some surface paper lift at corners and some faint moisture staining from scrapbook mounting. Cover is VG but still displays nicely. Interior pages are Exc.
