“FLASH GORDON/JUNGLE JIM” 1934-1938 LOT OF 66 FULL SIZE SUNDAY PAGES.
Item Description
Most are from “The Scrantonian” in Scranton, Pa., a few are from the “Philadelphia Inquirer”. All are 15.5x21.75”. Most are four-page sections, nine are single pages. All feature “Flash Gordon” w/”Jungle Jim” topper on front page. All are different, years and number per year are: 1934 (15), 1935 (19), 1936 (19), 1937 (8), 1938 (5). Nine pages from 1934 have "Fantastic Fashions" feature at top right which are cut-out paper dolls/clothing for Flash Gordon characters. A handful of pages have more significant wear and are Good/VG. A few pages have gentle folds as issued, a few small blank margin edge tears here and there. Vast majority of lot is Fine/VF overall. Other strips include “Skippy, Tim Tyler’s Luck, Little Annie Rooney”. These years are considered Alex Raymond’s best work, going from pen and ink to lush brush work w/classic images of Flash, Dale Arden, Dr. Zarkov, Emperor Ming and a host of beasts and beauties on the planet Mongo. Superb examples to frame and display.
