Item Description
4.5x11.5" painted cast iron license attachment. 1930s. American Beach was established in 1933 on Amelia Island on the Atlantic coast of Florida. Al Lewis, president of the African-American Insurance Co. bought 200 acres in 1930 to create this beach for the benefit of company employees. One of the few beaches in the southeast that was open to African-Americans. Great design features sailfish and bathing beauty in two-piece swimsuit. Noticeable paint loss/oxidation. Fine overall.
