Item Description
5.75" tall (9" tall to top of upright handle) tin litho sand pail by T. Cohn. 1930s. These pails were produced in both 6" and 8" sizes as well as featuring embossed and non-embossed varieties. This is smaller non-embossed variety. Sides features great scene of Popeye underwater w/diving helmet on, holding fishing rod that is connected to Swee'Pea, who also wears diving helmet as he pokes at fish w/tiny trident. Olive Oyl and Wimpy can be seen inside a bathoscope. Pail exterior has tiny traces of wear w/some oxidation along bottom rim. Bathoscope has .25" and .5x1" spots of bare metal showing. Interior base has some trace surface oxidation. Despite issues, pail remains bright and glossy. Fine overall. Scarce. From the Doug & Pat Wengel Collection and this is the actual example shown in their book "Comic Character Metal Sand Toys."
