Item Description
41.5x79.75" three-sheet poster for original release of the 1941 Republic 12-Chapter film serial which starred Tom Tyler in the titular role of Captain Marvel and Frank Coghlan, Jr. as his alter-ego Billy Batson. Poster was printed by the Morgan Litho Corp. of Cleveland, OH. Nice graphics include large full body image of Captain Marvel grappling w/the serial's villain, The Scorpion. Bottom portion of poster features scene of The Scorpion and his henchmen confronting Tyler and female co-star Louise Currie, who are tied to posts. Poster was issued in two pieces, w/bottom third being slightly off-center as printed, but graphics/text line up. A few pieces of tape are barely visible along line where two pieces join. Poster has horizontal and vertical folds as issued w/extensive color touch-ups along fold lines/fold crease intersections. These touch-ups blend for the most part (most noticeable on red areas of Captain Marvel's suit and title at top), but faces and other main images are mostly unaffected. Margin edges show obvious wear w/restoration to chips/tears/missing pieces. VG overall, but main image area retains bright, bold color and would mat and frame for a nice display as linen-mounted. Rare.
