5.75x7.25” thin art board has highly detailed India ink and gray wash art w/Israeli soldier holding rifle sitting on trunk as Arab and arms dealer talk at upper right while standing on rug labeled “Gentlean’s Agreement”. Upper left has hand inked caption “Britain Resumes Shipping Of Arms To The Arabs….” Bottom has hand inked caption “Israel: I Smell A Rat!...(You Said It Brother…).” Signed in ink at lower right “Arthur Szyk New Canaan 1949.”. Reverse side has pencil text for submission written by the artist “While His Back Is Turned 3 Col Cartoon For Compass Sunday June 27”. Compass is a Jewish publication. Image area Exc. Arthur Szyk (1894-1951)is well known for his detailed illustrations based on Jewish and Anti-Axis subjects in WWII. From the Schechter Family Collection.
