Item Description
Stickpins are about 2” tall with the first showing a multi-color gold bug walking along with a cane in one hand and bag of “Gold” in the other hand. Second stickpin is enameled flag with diagonal “McKinley.” Both of these are NM displaying Mint and the bug is quite scarce. Next are five pieces ranging between .75” and 1-1/16” in diameter. The first four pieces are enamel on brass lapel studs. Three of these are from 1896 but one with petal design is from 1900 with initials “M’K & R.” Couple faint hairlines on the yellow enamel. Two of these feature an extremely early use of the Republican elephant symbol on a device to be worn. On one of these the full figure elephant is shown and on the other a front on view of the elephant’s face. The third piece has slogan “Prosperity/Expansion/Gold Standard.” Next item is a McKinley celluloid pin back with a real photo tabbed into a very attractive enamel frame composed of white and turquoise color circles. One white circle is missing its dome but the rest are Exc. Reverse back paper from St. Louis firm Benz. First we’ve seen. Next is a piece of mother of pearl with engraved names. Reverse has short metal bar but no actual fastener, perhaps once a stickpin with pin now gone. Front displays Mint. Last with petal design is missing some white enamel from the stem and a flake of blue but still displays nicely with stem reading “Saviors Of Our Country” and with the petals naming “Washington/Lincoln/Grant/McKinley.” All are in NM to Mint condition except as noted. Numerous scarce pieces. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
