Item Description
10.5" long tin wind-up prototype, made from rare 1930s Marx Flying Zeppelin wind-up that has been repainted w/"Goodyear" name/logo on side and painted cockpit windows on passenger deck. Passenger deck on prototype is larger than the original production toy and features two separate propeller motors w/free-running propellers. Built-in key at rear, large propeller at front, missing one blade. Wind-up mechanism works. Prototype has original cloth tag noting it as "Revised Dirigible" w/back having handwritten "Attention Mr. L. Marx N.Y." indicating this was to be shown to Louis Marx for approval. Toy was ultimately unproduced. Scattered wear w/paint wear, some bare metal showing oxidation. Fine overall. Great iconic piece. From the John Bowers Collection.
