Item Description
This is the most extensive set of 1930s cartoon characters ever issued as buttons. Each is a 7/8” litho and most carry the name “Western Theater Premium Co” with either a Chicago or Los Angeles address. There are two distinctive sets of these. One set offered here includes a yellow accent color on each button. The other set is quite similar but without the yellow accent. While the images of the characters are the same on each set, the placement of the text varies between the two sets. Button numbers missing from this set of 50 are #16, #27, #34, #43. The set includes Oswald and his girlfriend Kitty leading off as buttons number one and two. There are many buttons picturing Looney Toons, Merry Melodies and Terry-Toons characters. Other major names include Krazy Kat, Bimbo, Boob McNutt, Barney Google, Tillie, Mac, Jiggs, Maggie, Popeye, Moon Mullins, Old Doc Yak, Skeezix and others. Vast majority are Exc. to Mint with the exception of Chester Gump which has tanned some and Skeezix which has little bit of scattered paint wear and some off the edge. See following two related lots.
