Item Description
Lot of 10 thin artboards featuring original art, dating to late 1960s and early 1970s. Artboards typically measure 6.75x21". Nine feature India ink art in three or four panels. Dates/plots as follows - March 21, 1970; w/Donald Duck sweltering on desert island. He sees box marked "Weirdo Hats, Inc." in sea and opens it, last panel showing him wearing wide-brimmed hat w/palm fronds as shade. April 4, 1970; w/Donald on desert island, box again in sea. He opens it and last panel reveals a gas pump on island, sign reading "Gas War" on tree and angry Donald facing other way. April 25, 1970; w/Donald trapped on island and yet another box marked "Ace Taxidermists" arriving. Last panel has Donald leaning against tree, which has moose head hung on it. March 17, 1970; w/Donald and Uncle Scrooge, who paces over interest rates. April 21, 1970; w/Donald leaving to go shopping, instructing Nephew to take message if anyone calls. Donald returns in last panel, shocked as Nephew (on phone w/Daisy) is writing long note on wall. Jan. 5, 1973; w/Donald in pajamas, trying to get his Nephews to bed, extolling the virtues of going to/getting out of bed early, which cause Nephews to point out Donald's flaws. Last panel has Donald agreeing to stay up late. May 29, 1970; w/Nephew crashing party. June 2, 1970; Nephews getting bad report cards and hiding on roof. June 5, 1974; w/two Nephews leaving movie w/one impressed w/actress, describing her attributes while other Nephew mocks him. All have Walt Disney Productions copyright and King Features Syndicate paste-over strips. Applied screen tone shading accents have tanned in a few places as typical over the years. Art is VF/Exc. Last strip features original blue pencil preliminary art and penciled text for proposed gag w/Donald and Daisy discussing love advice newspaper column. Donald asks Daisy what columnist says only to fall asleep. Reverse has pencil note reading "Rejected By Frank R. I." This strip was re-worked for Oct. 10, 1967 daily strip w/roles reversed. Pinholes at corners w/paperclip rust on back. VF.
