Item Description
Lot of two item signed by comic book artist Jack Burnley, the first artist, after Superman co-creator Joe Shuster, to draw Superman. Lot consists of two-page (single-sided) handwritten letter from Burnley w/Superman content. Burnley mentions enclosed "N.Y. World's Fair 1940" cover recreation, "The First Time Superman Was Ever Drawn Independently Without The Help And Supervision Of The Creator Joe Shuster." Letter also mentions hand-colored "World's Finest" print w/Superman and Batman. Burnley mentions his reluctance to do recreations, reserving them only for people he "Thought Deserved Them Because Of Their Contributions To The History Of Comics." He goes on to mention "The Comic Book Martketplace" interview w/Charlie Roberts and Burnley includes list of his covers he would like color copies of. Letter has been signed at bottom of second page. Top of first page has .75" area of surface paper lift, not affecting text. Second page has small stain spot, o/w VF/Exc. Comes w/copy of "Superman " #25 comic book from Nov./Dec., 1943 that has been signed on front cover in black ink "To Charlie & Joan, Best Wishes, Jack Burnley." Issue includes promo page showing other DC Comics including "Batman" #19, "Wonder Woman" #6, "All Star Comics" #18, "All-Flash" #12, "Green Lantern" #9, "Boy Commandos" #4 and "Leading Comics." First story has 2.25x2-5/8" clip from one panel. Back cover has 6" crease at corner and pinch creases along spine. Good/VG overall, but cover still displays nicely. Comic signature was obtained in-person. From the Charlie Roberts Collection and comes with Hake's COA.
