Item Description
This is a 1-3/8” real photo button, a most unusual size for a celluloid covered button. Button pictures Thorndike with surrounding text “Belle Of New York/Ben Greet Co.” Greet was a Shakespearean actor, director and producer. Button was issued for his American tour and Thorndike made her first stage appearance in his 1904 production of The Merry Wives Of Windsor. This button likely promotes that production. A few small marks to the right was surface dirt now removed. Button is NM and displays Mint. Only example we’ve seen.
