Item Description
This 1-5/8” litho was used two years following the original introduction of the Hopalong Cassidy endorsed and bank sponsored program to promote children opening savings accounts. This is the highest ranking award button from that program. The earlier 1950 club folders specify the highest rank button as “Foreman” which was given to children reaching $500. This button is from two years later. It was awarded to members who recruited one new savings account member for the sponsoring bank, either an adult or another child. If the member recruited three new members, an Honor Member Wallet with a Hoppy decal on the brass front was awarded as well. Without question, this is the rarest of the USA issued buttons and one of only four examples we’ve seen in five decades. Surface shows some light scratches mostly in the area of his hat and only seen in reflected light as the scratches do not break the paint. The only paint loss is a 1/16” dot at the bottom edge of his chin. Curl carries “©1952-William Boyd.” Rare.
