Item Description
First is 7” long stiff cardboard mailer with Quaker Oats return address. Top edge has a moisture stain but still in very sound condition. This was used to send the Aviator Goggles in this lot. These have clear plastic large eye covers with the entire frame outlined in a tan simulated fur and attached to a black elastic head trap. Goggles are NM and rare. Next is the 8” long “Official Dick Tracy Signal Code Pencil.” This thick pencil with silver lettering has a red point on one end and a blue point on the opposite although lead has broken off and a little sharpening would be needed to reveal a point. This end is covered by an aluminum cap with a siren whistle built in and working. Other than the one broken pencil point, condition is NM. Next is an extremely early and rare 1-3/8” litho tin badge with silver star reading “Dick Tracy Detective” on a blue metallic background. Only about the third we’ve seen. Unfortunately some scratches on the front remove a couple of letters or partial letters of his name. Metal back has some oxidation but maker name “Geraghty” is still visible. Next is a 1” tall silvered brass shield with attached link bracelet. Shield reads “Girls Dick Tracy Club.” Slight tarnish but still VF. Last is a 2” tall double sided cardboard badge with bar pin on the top edge. Top has profile portrait with text reading “Dick Tracy Tip-Top Detective.” Opposite side has picture of bread loaf and reads “Enriched Tip-Top Is Better Bread.” This piece carries a 1952 copyright. Light wear on the edges and small color rub crossing Tracy’s hat. All pieces are scarce to rare.
