Item Description
First is 9/16” silvered brass badge given as the basic membership pin in 1939 by Kellogg’s Wheat Krispies. This one shows him plus club name “Squadron Of Peace” plus the rank of “Ensign.” Reverse has a neatly replaced bar pin but the front is NM. With this comes a 1” tall badge that was once silvered although nearly all the silvering is gone and the piece has a nice clean brass coloration. Eagle and wreath surround a shield of the same design as on the basic membership badge. However, this badge is larger and along the bottom edge are the words “Lt. Commander.” The club manual detailed how to obtain this elevated rank. The person had to have three friends sign up as basic members. They had to send the paperwork themselves. Once received and verified, you then got credit if the kids agreed. You then had to cut out a coupon from the manual and send it in. We’ve never see a copy of the manual with this coupon removed which further indicates how few actually attempted to acquire this elevated rank badge. This is one of only three examples offered over five decades. Although mostly missing the silvering, with just traces on the reverse, the piece displays in brass tones and as Mint. Over the years we have had sales up to $700 the few times we have been able to offer this.
