Item Description
Trimmed 13-5/8x16-5/8" thin cardboard window card for the 1939 Twentieth Century-Fox Film Corp. film starring Basil Rathbone as Sherlock Holmes, Nigel Bruce as Dr. Watson and Richard Greene as Henry Baskerville. The studio apparently had no idea that the film would be such a hit (or that Rathbone and Bruce would go on to make a total of 14 Sherlock Holmes films, forever linking them w/the legendary detective pair), and top billing went to Greene, the film's romantic lead. Rathbone was billed second and Nigel Bruce (Dr. Watson) was billed fourth after female lead Wendy Barrie. After this film, Rathbone and Bruce would receive first and second billing respectively. Based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's novel "The Hound of the Baskervilles," the film was directed by Sidney Lanfield. Window card is evenly aged and top marquee area has been removed. Left and right margins have also been trimmed and it appears as if bottom margin has also had slight trim, hence the smaller than typical 14x22" window card size. Left margin has two .5" tears at lower half w/tape repairs on reverse. Upper left has two small impression marks that barely break surface paper (also w/tape repairs on reverse). Bottom center has faint crease that breaks surface on reverse but is barely noticeable on front. These margin issues could be easily matted out and main image area would display VF if framed.
