Item Description
12-7/8" tall elaborately designed silver-plated lidded ewer (jug) issued as the first place trophy at a 1873 Scottish dog show. Underside of bottom is marked "Lucas & Johnson - Shoreham Works - Sheffield - 2099." One side has small etched panel that reads "Caledonian Gamekeepers Dog Show - Glasgow - 20th May, 1873" and opposite side has another small etched panel that reads "1st Prize - Awarded To Archibald Campbell For Poodle 'Nellie' - Class 37." Ornately designed, lid has strawberry accent. Scattered loss to silver plating to base, lid, handle and neck; about 75% remains. Side has two shallow 1" dents, not too distracting. Fine overall. Neat piece of history for the dog show, which continues to this day.
