Item Description
Lot of four matching style pieces of glazed china by English company "Paragon China" w/"Chaplin Service Co." and company marks on undersides. c. 1918. Lot includes 2.5" tall handled cup has caricature image of Chaplin hopping on one foot w/"Whoa Charlie" text. front of cup has hairline vertical crack which is only noticeable when viewed closely as it mostly blends w/image and can only be seen at top and across lt. portions of Chaplin's face. Crack is more noticeable on interior. VG. 2-7/8" tall handled mug w/caricature image of Chaplin hopping on one foot w/"Charlie On The Hop" text. Back side of mug has tiny .25" and larger 1.25" hairlines but o/w mug remains bright and glossy w/a VF appearance. 5" dia. saucer bears repeated "Charlie On The Hop" image/text. Exc. Lot also includes 7" dia. by 1.75" deep baby's plate/bowl w/two caricature images of Chaplin, one same as on mug, the other showing him w/his hand up and "Charlie Salutes" text. Chaplin is depicted on both in his classic Little Tramp persona. Trace of wear to "Baby's" text but word remains quite legible. A few tiny paint flakes to green rim accents. Plate remains glossy and Exc. An exceptional Chaplin lot. All are scarce. Doug & Pat Wengel Collection.
