Item Description
This 5-5/8x8.25" hardcover (w/o dustjacket as issued) was published by Gregg Press in Boston, MA. in 1976. "Solar Lottery" was the author's first major work, this edition's text is offset from the 1955 Ace paperback edition. One of only 352 copies of this "Science Fiction Series" printed (see following item #1329). Philip K. Dick (1928-1982) is one of today's most revered and best-selling sci-fi authors, but he spent much of his career in near-poverty. Because of relative obscurity throughout much of his life, many of Dick's works received modest initial print runs. In addition, unlike many of his sci-fi peers, Dick attended few signings, making him one of the most collectible names in modern sci-fi. In the early 1950s, Dick embarked on his writing career by publishing short stories in sci-fi pulps, but made the jump to novels after one of his idols, A.E. Van Vogt, convinced him that there was more money to be made in that format. While Dick never completely gave up on short stories, he concentrated his prodigious output and published more than 40 novels in his life. His output is made all the more impressive when you consider that his later years were marked by poor health, both mental and physical. Book has previous owner's bookplate inside front cover and covers show lt. trace of wear. VF overall w/Exc. pages.
