Auction #215 - Part II
Item numbers 988 through 2613 in auction 215
Item Description
7x8.75" photo of noted Spanish pianist and composer Alberto Jonás. Displaying a talent for piano at a young age, Jonas entertained King Alfonso XII of Spain, where he was hailed as a child prodigy. After graduating from the Madrid Royal Conservatory at the age of 12, Jonas traveled across Europe, studying business and sometimes giving small performances, eventually he ignored his parent's desire for him to study business and devoted himself to music entirely. His work over the next several years was highly regarded by peers and mentors, eventually traveling to the US to become a music professor, and later President and Director of the Michigan Conservatory of Music. He would travel back and forth between Europe and the US throughout his life, finally settling in New York, where he served as a mentor and educator for talented musicians and students until his death in 1943. Photo has been inscribed in black ink "For Miss Angeline Marie Rousseau With My Best Wishes - Alberto Jonás." Exc. A very rare autograph and this is as good as it gets w/a bold signature on a great photo. Comes with Hake's COA and JSA LOA.
