Item numbers 988 through 2613 in auction 215
Item Description
Large and impressive 18.5x51" tall die-cut cardboard standee has easel back and depicts full body image of Henry, from the self-titled comic strip created by Carl Anderson in 1932. "The Saturday Evening Post" was the first publication to feature "Henry," and the series continued for two years. It seems only fitting that this standee should depict Henry helping to advertise his home magazine. Standee dates to the years the magazine published the cartoons/strips, 1932-1935. Front of standee has additional display capability as there is attached cardboard area that serves as shelf to hold copies of "The Saturday Evening Post." When supplies were exhausted, this shelf could be lowered so that it appears as if Henry is holding sign that reads "The Saturday Evening Post - Ask The Clerk For Your Copy." Missing generic cardboard support that was inserted into four die-cut slots on front of display, of which two are covered by platform/sign when it is in lowered position. Additional text at bottom right reads "Follow Henry Each Week In The Saturday Evening Post." This area has some glue staining. Henry's chin area appears to have had some paint re-touching/restoration. Standee has scattered edge wear (more moderate along base/bottom corners) w/some scattered moisture spots. Aged w/some dust soiling, platform/sign has .5x1" area of surface paper lift. VG overall, but still displays nicely as is. One of the most impressive Henry items. Very rare and the first we've seen in our 48 years.
