Item Description
1” diameter in brass with the front having a cut out window holding a thin layer of mica over a paper stamp picturing Thomas Jefferson and reading “U.S. Postage/5 Cents.” Reverse is blank except for inscriptions top and bottom reading “Pat Aug 18, 1862/J. Gault.” Mica covering has a few very faint and tiny hairline scratches along with two tiny dots of air. These pieces were issued during the Civil War as the population was faced with a shortage of coins. Scarce and Fine.
