Item Description
The brass shell frame is 1-1/16” with an outer edge of die cuts each with a heart shaped accent at the top. His name appears above his portrait on the ferrotype. Reverse has 1-1/8” vertical stickpin which goes through three layers of ruffled crepe paper with three crepe paper streamers each about 3” suspended below. The white steamer has a narrow crease along the lower edge but otherwise condition is outstanding. The frame appears to once have had some silver flashing which evaporated over time but the ferrotype image remains NM with just the tiniest narrow emulsion sliver off the far left and right sides at three and nine o’clock. A rare piece even without the crepe rosette but the fragility of this ornate backing certainly makes it extra rare. The first we’ve seen.
