Item Description
First is Hake #122 a 2.25” litho with attached die cut litho elephant. Elephant’s body can be moved up and down by pulling a black thread attached at the trunk. This movement gives the effect of the elephant kicking the donkey in the rear end. Elephant’s head and upper front leg along with an area on the top .5” of the button has tan stain. About 85% of the piece remains clean. Most of these, as with this example, were discovered years ago after a Chicago fire. There were many more of the Democratic version found than this Republican version. Our last example with about the same amount of tan stain was offered back in Auction #182 and realized around $300. The second item in this lot is Hake #2018. This is a 2.25” tall wood composition piece with original accent ribbon at top. Front shows ship with sails beneath text “Hoover Will Pilot Us Back To Prosperity.” Opposite side shows ship missing its sails beneath text “A New Pilot May Lead To Disaster.” Narrow loss of brown color from the edges of each side but vast majority remains clean. Don & Mildred Wright Collection.
