Six items from 2004, all sent to San Diego Comic-Con founder Shel Dorf. First is undated 8x10.5” sheet of lined paper hand written in ballpoint pen on both sides w/eight paragraphs. Contents include thanks for inscribed photo, crazy weather, “Lizzy’s Bat Mitzfa, Editing New Edition of Halloween Tree”, finding a stack of “1st Issue Of Mag With All The Tributes To Ray”. Bottom of front has 2.75” tall sketch w/note “Body Cast Of Steiger Used In Illustrated Man Resides In My Back Room In Muncie Where All Kerry Drake, C Chan & D Dunn Live!!. Both sides are signed in ink “Ray”. Next four letters and Christmas card come in 4x9.5” envelopes w/”Ray Bradbury” printed home address in L.A. Postmark dates are: March 11, April 22, July 16, Aug. 21, Dec. 10. Typewritten letters w/ illustrated letterheads of Bradbury home interior have contents including: lecture in San Diego, mourning passing of Julius Schwartz, Milton Caniff flyer, meeting young Charles Beaumont and trading comic strips w/him and encouraging him to become a writer, Michael Moore and how he’ll be punished by waking up in “The Body Of Michael Moore”. Aug. 21 letter has extensive content regarding “King Kong” including: “In The Spring Of 1933 I Worked On Radio, Reading Kiddy Comics And My Pay Was Free Tickets To 'King Kong', Seeing It Three Times, Meeting Merian Cooper 20 Years Ago And How Cooper Took Out An Ad Bragging About How He Had Lunch With Ray Bradbury.” He ends w/"That Evening At Grauman’s When We Had Lunch w/Lovely Fay Is One I’ll Never Forget. We’ll Go On Loving Her, Won’t We”. Dec. 10 envelope contains 8.5x11” “Christmas Greetings 2004 From Ray Bradbury” sheet w/ “Maggie Remembered” poignant remembrances about his wife who passed away in 2003. Comes w/ 2-5/8x3” proof photo of Bradbury w/his arm around Superman writer/creator Jerry Siegel likely taken at 1975 SD Comic-Con. Photo has trace of aging in reflected light. Near Fine. Letters and Christmas sheet have lt. horizontal folds as mailed, otherwise envelopes and cards are Exc./NM. An important and unique historical archive sent to a friend who had Bradbury as a guest at one of the first San Diego Comic-Cons. Comes w/Hake’s COA. Charlie Roberts Collection.
