Item Description
Seven handwritten letters dated between 1974 and 1979 on 8.5x11” stationery; all but one w/“C.C. Beck” imprint at top. All are signed “C.C.” at bottom and are written to “OrlandoCon” co-founder Charlie Roberts. Three refer to Beck attending the first “OrlandoCon” in 1974 w/wife.

Dates/content include -

June 14, 1974 ALS. Noted Beck thing he’ll be able to attend “OrlandoCon," noting  “Mrs. Beck Will Be With Me As She’s My ‘Manager'."

June 21, 1974 ALS. “We’ll Be At Orlando Convention, I’ll Have A Weapons Display and Possibly Some Drawings To Show…May Sell A Few If Things Work Out.”

Aug. 24, 1974 ALS. “Will See You At The Convention, Just Heard From Bob Overstreet Who May Be There.”

Nov. 12, 1974 ALS. Directions to house in Miami w/hand-drawn map.

Oct. 15, 1975 ALS. Mentions West Palm Beach Con, a friend’s child and how he feels like “H.G. Wells Time Traveler To Whom People Aged And Died Before He Could Blink.”

Aug. 10, 1977 ALS w/matching hand-addressed mailing envelope. Has new address in Lake Wales and mentions “A Large Studio With Plenty of Room For All My Weapons, Models, Paintings And Stuff,” going to San Diego Con, mentions “Others Have Suggested Like You Have That Something Be Done To Get Me Benefits Like Siegel and Shuster,” how old companies “Treated Us Like Performing Animals, Worse Than Slaves.” He ends with “Fawcett Is Doing Fine, But D. C. Must Be About Ready For The Undertaker.”

Oct. 17, 1979 ALS w/matching hand-addressed envelope. Beck mentions attending Minnesota Con and discusses doing an art commission for $175 “I Think I Ought To Go More Into The Norman Rockwell Treatment - C.M. Acting As Santa Claus.”

Next is 11-page photocopy “The World’s Mightiest Mortal Vs. The World’s Stupidest Publisher" script by Beck. Top of front page is signed “For Charlie From Charlie (CC) Beck." Comes w/loose address label filled out in ink by Beck, small glossy photo of two Carl Barks covers re-creations Beck did, signed in pencil “CC Beck Studio 1977." Lot also includes generic Christmas card signed by his wife and six small photos taken by Roberts. Two bw show Beck at first “OrlandoCon” talking to fan (w/Hal Foster nearby) and talking to con chairman Jim Ivey. Next four are color and show Beck and wife at “OrlandoCon," w/three showing him in his studio. Two feature him holding his original re-creations of his Golden Age “Captain Marvel” covers and one has him and wife in living room w/balsa wood replica weapons he constructed.
